God rescued the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, and they set off with Moses. But Pharaoh changed his mind and chased them with his chariots. The people were trapped between the army and the sea, and they were terrified.
Moses said, 'Don't be afraid. Stand still and see how the Lord will rescue you.' God told Moses to stretch out his hand over the sea. All night a strong east wind blew, and the water split apart, making a path of dry ground with walls of water on both sides.
The Israelites walked safely through to the other side. When the Egyptian army followed, the waters came back. God's people were free! Miriam picked up a tambourine and led the women in dancing and singing praise to God.
When the Israelites felt trapped, God made a way where there seemed to be no way. The story reminds us God is powerful and cares for his people. The right response to God's rescue is praise.
Yahweh will fight for you, and you shall be still.”
